On 15th Jan`2012,
Union Minister for Tourism Subodh Kant Sahay visited Shirdi to seek Sai Baba‘s blessings.
After he paid obeisance in Sai Baba’s Samadhi Mandir,
the Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan facilitated him with a Idol of Sai Baba, vastra and prasad.
Later on while speaking to media he said that the work on the upcoming airport at Shirdi had got delayed
due to runway modification and thus will be completed in the next 3 years & it should be completed
before the upcoming commemorative function to mark the centenary of Baba’s Samadhi in 2018,
when, thousands of devotees of Shri Sai Baba are expected to come to Shirdi from various parts of India/Abroad.
He further said as part of the preparations for the event, the Union Government will make available funds
for the upgradation of the infrastructure such as sanitation and roads because Shirdi is an important place
on the global map. This work will be undertaken jointly by the Central and State governments
along with the Shirdi Sansthan and Shirdi’s Municipal council.
